I like to consider myself an eccentric and creative individual.
I grew up in Shelbyville, Kentucky where I was exposed to all things theatre by my mother who directed countless plays at the community theatre. Some of my earliest memories include being on stage in my mother's production of Fiddler on the Roof where I followed older cast members around and was read Dr.Suess books backstage before and after the show. Whenever I accompanied my mom to play rehearsals, I carried around a "backstage box" full of crayons, markers, coloring books, and plain sheets of printer paper. I remember taking in all my surroundings, using the community theatre volunteers and high school drama club students as inspiration as I made my brightly colored compositions and threw them into my rubbermaid box before going home.
As I got older, I remember carrying around lined notebooks specifically designated to drawing fun characters. I was enamored with the Wii game "My Sims" and the characters in it, and would draw them over and over again and title the pages with their names. I also loved the style that the Powerpuff Girls were drawn in, and often emulated their eyes on any characters of my own creation. I loved being my elementary school art teacher's class pet and loved being a little bit more excelled than my classmates. My art teacher had a cheesy framed photo that said "Without art, the earth is just 'eh'." and I'm not sure I ever let that go.
As I entered middle school, I started to take art and design a bit more seriously. Being an "angsty" and "edgy" teen, I spent a decent amount of time making an aesthetic Tumblr and Instagram layout, as well as studying art composition more closely. I started getting actual sketchbooks and drawing people in it. I still think portraits are my favorite thing to draw.
Entering high school, I was definitely more artistically inclined and curious, knowing I had to step up my game if I wanted to be comparable to the artists I looked up to. I took as many art electives as possible, two graphic design classes, was a senior aide for my art teacher, and even took graduation photos for the yearbook class I wasn't even enrolled in.
Now being in college, I still realize there are so many things for me to learn and master. I have taken Digital Illustration, Video Art, Digital Foundations, Digital Portfolio, and even partnered with the Kentucky Humane Society to help them formulate an advertisement campaign suited to their current needs. Combining my Communications major with the Design, Arts, & Technology major has been one of the best decisions I've made. I'm able to combine my desire to make art with my newfound knowledge of communications methods and create projects I can genuinely be proud of.
I cannot wait for my career to continue in major ways, as I have such an intense love and enjoyment of photography, design, and art in all forms. I am always looking to learn and master new skills and share them with those around me. I hope that after graduation I am able to work in a Graphic Design or Marketing job. I feel as though I would be a valuable asset to any place of employment due to my experience and vigor. Thank you so much for reading about me.
